(Statement of public figures) 

 
On March 16-21 the book exhibition-fair “Books of Russia-2011” took place in pavilion No 57 of All-Russian exhibition center (VVTs). Together with Moscow international book exhibition-fair, “Books of Russia” fairly shares the title of biggest book fair in the country. But these two bright events also have another, much more scandalous fame, namely – as channels of demonstration and dissemination of double-dyed xenophobic literature.

     For already several years we note availability of anti-Christian, anti-Semitic, anti-Caucasian and other xenophobic and often racist pulp fiction at the exhibition-fair. Unfortunately this year was not an exception: four publishing houses at once specializing on issuing of such produce placed their stands at the fair.

    

Publishing house “Russian truth” proposed for sale this year: “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” that were acknowledge anti-Semitic fraud long ago, books by radical nationalist A. Sevastyanov who was the object of inspections of office of public prosecutor more than once - “What the Jews want of us” and “Time to be Russian”, anti-Christian book by V. Avdeyev “Overcoming of Christianity”.

     “Institute of Russian civilization” presented writings of Black-Hundreders of early 20th century including opus by the leader of Union of Russian people A. Dubrovin that was not published before. Besides, books by the head of “Institute” Oleg Platonov were presented at the stand – he is exposing a “yid-mason conspiracy” diligently for almost two decades.

     Stand of publishing house “Mitrakov” was filled with books by so-called “academician” N. Levashov practically completely – he combines anti-Semitism with anti-Christianity. One of books by Mr. Levashov was already acknowledged extremist material by court …

     Xenophobic literature was presented at the stand of publishing house “Algorithm” in a big way. A. Vdovin, author of mendacious textbook on history of Russia that caused scandal and was condemned by scientific public presented his new book “Genuine history of Russians. 20th century”. A series “200 years together” published by the publishing house introduces authors-anti-Semites – I. Shafarevich, G. Semanov, A. Baygushev. Book by S. Balandin “Fundamentals of scientific anti-Semitism” is there along with them. But “Algorithm” did not limit itself to sale of its books but also exhibited books of other publishing houses that are ideologically close to it. Thus, book by A. Savelyev and V. Avdeyev “Race and Russian idea”, book by T. Gracheva reviving old myth about worldwide Jewish conspiracy were available on counter. Even seemingly reputable publishing house “Exmo” did not squeamish about issuing of opus by the Holocaust denier Jurgen Graf.

     Except dissemination of books of xenophobic orientation, book fair at VVTs gradually turns into a place of public actions with a nationalistic tinge. Thus, on March 19 in the fair premises round table took place with pretentious name “Who is to gain from prohibiting books?”. Participants of the “round table” stated the persecution of dissenters meaning punishments for incitement of ethnic dissension. Appeals were heard at the meeting in support of radical nationalists that are under trial on charges of murders, and suggestions were heard to arrange mass actions of radical character. On March 20 two-hour press conference of former minister of press M. Poltoranin took place – he assures everybody in his book “Power in TNT equivalent” that was published not long ago (by the same publishing house “Algorithm”) that some masons from organization “Bnay Brit” seek to enslave Russia.
